Final Blog Post
- If you could go back and re-do this project, what would you do differently, and why?
At the beginning of this project, I was excited and eager to become more involved in my community. The idea of volunteering once or twice a week for a service organization sounded like a rewarding experience. However, looking back, I realize that I didn't fully plan or think through all the details. For one, if I had done more research before starting, I could have found an organization where I could volunteer consistently every week, which would have made the project more effective and manageable. Unfortunately, I still haven't heard back from any of the organizations I signed up for last week.
I also wish I had considered my schedule more realistically. Proper planning would have helped me avoid overcommitting. I underestimated how much I had on my plate these past few weeks, especially as I’ve been finishing my flight course. At the end of each week, I’ve felt a bit discouraged because I was so excited when I first came up with the idea, but each week I fell short of my original expectations.
From this experience, I’ve learned the importance of setting realistic goals. Although I didn’t fully meet my original ambitions, I still found meaningful ways to serve in smaller ways, primarily around my home, with friends, and neighbors. In the end, while my big goals weren’t fully realized, I’ve come to appreciate that service isn’t always about grand gestures. It’s about showing up in whatever way we can, even in the small moments. This project may not have gone exactly as I planned, but it has taught me valuable lessons about flexibility, planning, and the true essence of service.
