Final Blog Post

If you could go back and re-do this project, what would you do differently, and why? At the beginning of this project, I was excited and eager to become more involved in my community. The idea of volunteering once or twice a week for a service organization sounded like a rewarding experience. However, looking back, I realize that I didn't fully plan or think through all the details. For one, if I had done more research before starting, I could have found an organization where I could volunteer consistently every week, which would have made the project more effective and manageable. Unfortunately, I still haven't heard back from any of the organizations I signed up for last week. I also wish I had considered my schedule more realistically. Proper planning would have helped me avoid overcommitting. I underestimated how much I had on my plate these past few weeks, especially as I’ve been finishing my flight course. At the end of each week, I’ve felt a bit discouraged because I w...

Volunteer opportunities

This week I have continued as before with small acts of service as often as possible. I do feel that this part about original idea has been the most consistent and easiest to accomplish. Much like last week, I feel that because I am looking for ways to serve others more opportunities do do so are popping up around me. I enjoy doing these small acts and don't feel like I am being inconvenience by them in any way. I wasn't able to volunteer at an organization this week either. However, since last week I have sent in a few different applications to organizations that I am very interested in. First if Honors flight which is an organization that helps military veterans. This organization plans flights for veterans who served in WW2, the Korean war, and the Vietnam war to Washington dc for a day of recognition and celebration. The next organization is called Cultivate Goodness which might be the most accessible organization for me to join. I actually did not have to apply to join ins...

Small acts

This week was busier than usual as I am wrapping up my flight training, getting other classes in order for next semester and balancing work as well. Although I wasn't able to fit in an organizational service to participate in this week, I found that more opportunities to serve others have presented its self solely because I have been shifting my focus recently. To start more of the miniscule work I have done on the daily have been really simple and started in my home. I've been reaching out more helping around the house with more chores, helping my little brother with school work, overall being more intentional with how I can do my part and help out. I also had the opportunity this week to help out a stranger at the gas station. An elderly couple were at the gas station trying to get home but had lost their debit card so I offered to pitch in for their gas. It may seem like a small thing, but I hope that I had brightened their day and lightened a small burden. These acts may s...

First blog post

A positive activity I would like to implement throughout the next four weeks is volunteer work and doing acts of service. My unit 2 paper's main point was centered around how service to others can help bring meaning to your life. I can track my progress by keeping organized time sheet of the work that I am doing and record my experiences in journal that will in turn be published to this blog. This would be a good choice for me because it relates to my positive psychology topic of enhancing purpose through serving others.   I think that I could gain a lot of unique experiences from doing consistent volunteer work which could give me a different outlook on what my purpose may be. Ideally I would like to find organizations relating to the career field that I want to go into (aviation). In the past I have volunteered for women in aviation events which has turned into a major passion of mine that I would love to continue to grow. Otherwise, If I am not able to find an ...
